This slapstick comedy featured the Clampetts, a hillbilly family who strike oil in their backyard, are paid 25 million for it, and then move to Beverly Hills. The comedy centers around the Clampett's encounters with the big city and it's corrupt politics, unfamiliar fashions and all of the other trappings of modern life. This series was one of CBS's longest running situation comedies and was the number one show in the country during it's first two years.
I have always loved the "Beverly Hillbillies." I watched the show as a child and enjoy them as much today as I did then. When I was in the hospital for three weeks in my 30's, I watched them six times a day on different stations and have to say that all the laughter they gave to me helped in overcoming a serious illness.I met "Ellie Mae," spending a weekend with her, her husband , my date, and some others. She was delightful, authentic, down-to-earth, and exactly as she was on the show, accent included. Her husband was a very nice film editor. They were a low-key, very enjoyable couple.My favorite episode is when granny sat on top of the stove. Does anyone know what season that was?Have a great day, everyone. Hope
